As a former First Sea Lord of the British Royal Navy, Sir George led the Royal Navy with distinction, overseeing its modernisation, strategic direction, and global operational effectiveness. During his three-year tenure as First Sea Lord (2013–2016), he played a pivotal role in the Strategic Defence and Security Review, ensuring that the Royal Navy was positioned as a formidable force on the global stage. His leadership was instrumental in resetting the Navy’s authority, focus, and technological edge, strengthening its role in national and international security.
Beyond his naval career, Sir George’s passion for innovation and emerging technologies has positioned him as a leading figure in robotics, encryption, data security, and artificial intelligence. In addition to his role at Galaxkey, Sir George serves as Lord Warden of the Cinque Ports, a historic appointment that reflects his continued dedication to national security, maritime strategy, and public service.
